asked him to assess the enormity of the situation in Cambodia: were
things stabilizing, maybe even improving? He seemed surprised at the
question. His answer was simple. The problem is not abating. It is growing…and
he predicted there would be a "tidal wave" of orphans in Cambodia
in the next few years, a tidal wave that no one is prepared for.
In light of the tragic tsunami disaster, his words seem more ominous today than they did when we first heard them. A tidal wave of orphaned children, most of them due to the increase in AIDS deaths, many of them HIV+ themselves, in a country with limited or no medical care (depending on the location) and limited financial resources…the thought is fearful. Accurate statistics are still hard to come by, but numbers do not matter.
What does matter is each child, each solitary life that Jesus Christ lived and died for. Does it matter if there are 2,000 or 20,000 or 200,000 orphans in Cambodia? If you have held even one dying child it is too many…it is enough to make you aware, to warn you that a tidal wave is coming and relief will be needed.
Cambodian Outreach Project is continuing the development
of Cosette's Hope Children's Home which opened in July 2005 and currently
cares for sixteen (16) children..
COP is committed to meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs
of orphaned children. It seems that the greatest need for assistance
in the coming months and years will be among this particular group of
children. Care of these children is specialized and demanding, requiring
specially trained personnel, access to dependable medical care, and
the financial resources for monthly care, education and medical needs.
You can help us meet the needs of these children by making a financial contribution for their daily care and on-going medical needs. "Donate Online" through a secure online server. You will receive an annual statement for your tax records, and an email
confirming your online donation. Cambodian Outreach Project (COP) is an IRS recognized non-profit 501(c)(3) Public Charity organization. All contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS code.

Tidal Wave: a familiar term with a new meaning. Since the tsunami hit Asia in December 2004, we have a vivid impression of the enormity, suddenness and devastation that characterize a tidal wave. As we watched news coverage of the disaster in the days following the tsunami, the death toll numbers running across the bottom of our screen grew until they became almost incomprehensible.
It was then that an image of one mother weeping over her dead child, or a newly orphaned child weeping for his dead parents, told the story in a way numbers never could. A tidal wave had struck and had left in its wake a path of pain and suffering that could only be understood one life at a time.
In August 2004 we met with a gentleman in Phnom Penh , a man who has been working with orphaned children in Cambodia for several years. Frustrated by our inability to find
accurate, consistent statistics on orphaned children, we
